“Pharmacists have a critical role to play in the psychedelic renaissance as scientific communicators. Our training gives us the skills to take the complex scientific data gleaned from clinical studies and translate it to language that patients, and other healthcare providers, can more easily understand.”

Kristin Speer PharmD

Broomfield, Colorado, USA| She/Her

Kristin Speer, PharmD, BCPS

Dr. Kristin Speer is a co-founder of the Psychedelic Pharmacist Association. In 1999, Kristin witnessed the horrific massacre unfold at Columbine, which was in the same neighborhood as Kristin’s high school. She subsequently shared her classrooms with displaced Columbine students, learning more about their stories, trauma and healing. This event sparked her interest in mental health and palliative care.

As a pharmacist, Kristin has practiced for nearly a decade in end-of-life and palliative care within the PBM environment. There, physicians and other prescribers consulted Kristin and her team on how to manage complex patients with distressing symptoms. Kristin often recommended and designed ketamine regimens due to the medication’s rapid acting effects on depression, anxiety and pain. Through her work in this field, she was introduced to the potential of other psychedelic therapies for palliative care and mental health.

Through the Psychedelic Pharmacists Association, Kristin aims to create a trusted source of psychedelic pharmacy curriculum for pharmacy schools across the nation, and to advocate for the expansion of psychedelic use in palliative care.

Kristin is an entrepreneur. She established a consulting business that designs and manages drug regimens for psychiatric conditions and pain. She is currently developing visual communication solutions and patient care tools for clients within various health industries and is co-producing a retail pharmacy documentary.
